So what’s it like working at LOCOG right now?

Right now, LOCOG is buzzing. We've passed the '3 years to go' mark and the realisation that 'we're next' is really sinking in.  It's charged the atmosphere - and I love it. It's an incredibly inspiring place to work with great people around.

What’s been your best experience so far?

What are you working on at LOCOG?

I work in LOCOG's five-person New Media team, with the title of ‘New Media Producer’. Mostly, this means I'm part of the team that is responsible for making sure that London 2012 is represented in the world of the internet. This can include:

  • Producing new web pages / sites
  • Managing users queries about the website
  • Figuring out online marketing strategies for big events

An example of my work would be when I ‘produced’ the current London 2012 homepage. Producing, in internet terms, is basically ‘making the site happen’. In the case of the homepage this involved choosing and working with the design agency that designed the aesthetics of the page, ensuring that the design reflected the requirements of LOCOG and the ODA whilst being technically feasible, and working with our tech-y provider to make sure that the design was implemented correctly on the live website. Other examples (of many) would be some work I've been doing around streamlining the way users register with the London 2012 website, and refreshing the Cultural Olympiad section of the site.

What’s your favourite Olympic moment?

When Kerri Strug brought the U.S. women's gymnastics team to their first ever gold medal in 1996.  She'd injured her ankle very badly but performed the last routine of the event through the pain to make sure the team won gold.
