Podium - ParalympicsGB
Deloitte supports ParalympicsGB, the organisation that aims to send the best trained and prepared Great Britain Team to each Paralympic Games, in getting British athletes onto the podium. Whilst we are proud that ParalympicsGB has been second in the medal table at the past three Summer Games, London 2012 represents a new and different challenge.
London 2012 is a lifetime opportunity to change the face of disability sport in this country and, through great British performances, forever change perceptions of people with a disability. Our support will help ParalympicsGB to raise the profile of Paralympic sport, and its athletes, to ensure that, post-London 2012, funding is more accessible – from sponsors, the public and the Government.
With other nations investing heavily in their Paralympic teams and vastly improving their levels of performance, our support really matters. ParalympicsGB will take its biggest ever team to London 2012, despite entering this Paralympiad off the back of a funding cut of over £3m.
A joint marketing agreement between ParalympicsGB and LOCOG means that sponsorship income is fixed, so revenue is only available through charitable donations. This makes Deloitte’s pledge to raise £1m for ParalympicsGB, through a new corporate challenge, Deloitte Ride Across Britain, critical to success at London 2012.
The money raised will be spent wisely on areas that will enable the team to give their lifetime’s best performances, including providing the best, high-performance kit; supporting smaller, less well-funded sports and athletes so that they can attend preparation camps; and providing extra medical facilities and support staff.
There is often only a tiny difference between Gold and Silver, and the little things that ParalympicsGB do make a big difference to the performance of the team. We are proud to support them in making that difference when it matters most, at our home Games in London.
