Performance - Deloitte TASS

The Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) programme, managed by the charity SportsAid, is an inspired initiative that supports talented athletes in fulfilling their sporting potential, whilst enabling them to continue their education. Deloitte is the disability sport partner for the programme, which is targeted at disabled athletes between the ages of 16 and 35 who are already competing at national and international level. Athletes are nominated for the scheme by their sport’s governing body, so we can be sure we are helping the right athletes at the right time.

Deloitte’s investment has doubled the financial support available through the scheme and we’re delighted that well in excess of 400 individual Deloitte TASS athletes have benefited so far. Athletes receive a tailored package of core sporting services such as coaching, sports medicine, strength and conditioning, and lifestyle management through a network of educational institutes responsible for delivering these services.

The results are already starting to show, with 33 Deloitte TASS athletes competing in the record-breaking ParalympicsGB team in Beijing. This group of athletes brought home eight gold medals and one silver. Deloitte is immensely proud of their achievements and, as a supporter of the whole ParalympicsGB team, we are excited about what can be achieved in 2012 as well as the legacy of athletes supported by the programme who will go on to compete beyond the London Games.

By 2012, the programme, which won a prestigious Lord Mayor’s Dragon Award in 2008 and a Beyond Sport Award in 2009, will have reached 500 sportsmen and women, giving each one the chance to achieve in performance sport.
